NHL Veteran Brandon Sutter Announces Retirement After 13 Seasons

After a 13-season career in the NHL, veteran forward Brandon Sutter officially announced his retirement on Sunday, reoprts NHL.com. This decision followed his release from a professional tryout (PTO) with the Edmonton Oilers.

Sutter’s journey in the NHL began when he was selected as the 11th overall pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2007 NHL Draft. Over his extensive career, he accumulated 289 points, showcasing his skill with 152 goals and 137 assists in 770 regular-season games. Additionally, he contributed 18 points, consisting of nine goals and nine assists, in 50 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Unfortunately, Sutter had been sidelined since the 2020-21 season due to complications arising from COVID-19. His health had been a primary concern, and although he had been on the path to recovery, he decided to prioritize his well-being and family.

In expressing his gratitude, Sutter acknowledged the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes, along with all his former coaches, trainers, and teammates. He cherished the incredible experiences he had throughout his 13 seasons in the NHL and thanked everyone who had been a part of his journey.
